Classification on Mumaris Plus can be done from India (Dataflow, the exam, then Nurse Specialist for a BSc or Nurse Technician for a diploma). Registration needs residence in Saudi Arabia and is valid two years.

A Saudi nursing licence comes from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), through its Mumaris Plus portal. It has two stages: classification, which you can do from India, and registration, which needs residence in Saudi Arabia. This guide sets out both.

The steps

  1. Mumaris Plus account

Create your account on Mumaris Plus and choose the Professional Classification service.

  2. Dataflow

DataFlow verifies your degree, registration and experience. SCFHS asks for its final report.

  3. The exam

An electronic written exam at Prometric or Pearson VUE. Your eligibility to take it usually lasts three months from issue.

  4. Professional classification

SCFHS classifies you by your qualification and experience: for nurses, Nurse Specialist or Nurse Technician.

  5. Professional registration

After the job offer and the visa: registration needs lawful residence in Saudi Arabia. It is valid for two years.

If your qualification needs to be assessed, a Qualification Study on Mumaris Plus comes first. From our team: the order is then the Qualification Study, Professional Classification, the eligibility and exam steps, and Professional Registration. SCFHS publishes about 50 business days for the Qualification Study, and the actual time can vary.

How SCFHS classifies a nurse

Bachelor's in nursing (BSc)Nurse Specialist
Three-year nursing diploma (GNM)Nurse Technician
SCFHS, The Scope of Nursing and Midwifery Practice in Saudi Arabia (2024).

SCFHS asks non-Saudi applicants for at least one year of experience, and a valid registration from your own country.

SCFHS's applicant guide for the Saudi Nursing Licensure Examination (SNLE) asks for a BSN or equivalent. Diploma nurses take the exam for their own classification: we check which one applies to you.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for SCFHS classification from India?

Yes. SCFHS says the Professional Classification can be applied for from outside the Kingdom. Registration comes later and needs residence in Saudi Arabia.

Can a GNM nurse work in Saudi Arabia?

A three-year diploma is classified as Nurse Technician. Nurse Specialist needs a bachelor's degree.

Can a diploma nurse become a Nurse Specialist later?

Not with experience alone. A diploma nurse first gets an eligible higher qualification, such as an accredited BSc Nursing, then applies for Professional Re-classification on Mumaris Plus with the new certificate, transcript, internship evidence and verified documents. SCFHS then assesses the eligibility and any exam needed.

What if my Qualification Study is rejected or I chose the wrong classification?

Check the reason given, correct any missing documents or verification issues, and contact SCFHS for clarification before you apply again. For a wrong classification, ask SCFHS whether the application can be amended or a new one is needed. If you think a decision is wrong, Mumaris Plus has a grievance process with its own deadline.

How much experience does SCFHS ask for?

At least one year for non-Saudi applicants.

How many attempts do I get at the Saudi exam?

Prometric's SCFHS FAQ says three attempts.

How long is SCFHS registration valid?

Two years.

How do I renew my SCFHS registration?

Check your renewal eligibility in Mumaris Plus first, even if your card expired years ago. Our team notes that SCFHS asks for 20 CME hours for technicians, 40 for specialists and pharmacists, and 60 for doctors; if your hours are short, a one-year renewal may be available once, subject to eligibility. If your card expired long ago, ask SCFHS whether you need a new professional registration instead. If the renewal is rejected because Dataflow says "Unable to Verify", find the document concerned, get confirmation from the university, council or employer that issued it, and appeal or ask for re-verification through DataFlow with that evidence. Do not submit the same documents again without fixing the issue.

Your documents checked and submitted to DataFlow for SCFHS, with the eligibility number from Mumaris.
