  1. Notary seal

    A notary public attests the document first.

  2. SDM seal

    The office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate adds its seal and signature. For some countries the state step is the HRD or the Home Department.

  3. Apostille sticker

    The sticker of the Government of India with the word Apostille. It names the kind of document, who signed it and in what capacity, the place and the date, and carries a number and a QR code.

  4. MEA seal and officer's stamp

    The round seal of the Ministry of External Affairs and the stamp and signature of the officer. No embassy stamp follows.

What the apostille for Saudi Arabia is needed for

Saudi Arabia checks that a foreign document is genuine before it accepts it.

  • Apostille, not embassy attestation

    The Apostille Convention has been in force for Saudi Arabia since 7 December 2022. The MEA Apostille is the last step in India: no Saudi Embassy stamp is added.

  • SACA for a degree

    A degree certificate used for a Saudi work visa may also need the verification of the Saudi Arabian Cultural Attaché (SACA) in New Delhi, before the MEA Apostille. Not every employer asks for it, so we confirm it for your case first.

  • Saudi MOFA, in the Kingdom

    A stamp of the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not part of the India side. Some purposes in Saudi Arabia may still involve it after you arrive. It is arranged there, usually by the employer.

Does Saudi Arabia need an apostille or embassy attestation?

An apostille. The Apostille Convention has been in force for Saudi Arabia since 7 December 2022, so an Indian document for Saudi Arabia takes the MEA Apostille and no Saudi Embassy stamp in India. For a degree certificate, some employers also ask for the verification of the Saudi cultural attaché (SACA). Confirm with your employer, or ask us.

What are the steps of the apostille for a degree certificate?

First the state attestation: the HRD of the state that issued the certificate, or notary and SDM. Then, where it is asked for, the verification of the Saudi Arabian Cultural Attaché (SACA) in New Delhi. Then the MEA Apostille.

What is SACA verification?

It is the verification of a degree certificate by the Saudi Arabian Cultural Attaché in New Delhi. It applies to degree certificates and their mark sheets used for a Saudi work visa, and comes before the MEA Apostille. Personal documents do not need it.

Do you need the mark sheets?

For a degree certificate, yes. Send all mark sheets with the original certificate.

What is the process from Kerala?

For an educational certificate: a notary and the SDM, SACA verification where it is asked for, and then the MEA Apostille. For a birth or marriage certificate: the Home Department or the SDM, and then the MEA Apostille.

Is Saudi MOFA attestation still needed after the apostille?

Not on the India side: the MEA Apostille, with SACA for a degree where it is asked for, completes it. In Saudi Arabia, some purposes may still involve a stamp of the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. That is arranged there, usually by the employer.

Which documents are apostilled for a Saudi family visa?

The marriage certificate for a spouse visa and the birth certificate for a child. For a marriage certificate we need the passport copies of husband and wife.

Which documents do I need for an apostille for Saudi Arabia?
