What the Nursing Council of New Zealand asks for
Internationally qualified nurses start with TruMerit (formerly CGFNS), the company the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) uses to verify documents. Only after TruMerit's verification does NCNZ invite you to apply for registration.
TruMerit needs a licence or registration verification from every authority that registered you as a nurse in the last 10 years, even where you never worked. For an Indian nurse, that is each state council you were registered with, and any authority abroad.
You download the form from your TruMerit account and send it to the council. The council completes it and sends it directly to TruMerit, electronically or by post or courier. TruMerit does not accept the form from you or from anyone other than the council.
The rules that matter
From NCNZ and TruMerit's handbook for New Zealand.
Every licence of the last 10 years
One verification from each authority, including councils where you were registered but did not work.
Sent by the council itself
TruMerit only accepts the form from the council itself, sent directly to it.
One licence still active
At least one of your registrations must be active when you apply to TruMerit.
12 months to complete
All documents must reach TruMerit within 12 months of your paid order, so start the council requests early.
Doctors: the MCNZ Certificate of Professional Status
The Medical Council of New Zealand asks doctors for a Certificate of Professional Status (COPS) from every authority they practised under in the last 5 years. The authority emails it directly to the Medical Council, and it must be dated within the 3 months before you start practising in New Zealand.
