Planning to work as a nurse or midwife in Malta? Or already working there and planning your next move? Either way, a good-standing certificate is a document you will need at one of these two points in your Malta journey.
If you are heading to Malta from India, the Council for Nurses and Midwives Malta, known as the CNM, requires a good-standing certificate from your Indian nursing council as part of your registration process. If you have been working in Malta and are now moving to another country, CNM issues a Certificate of Current Professional Status confirming your professional record in Malta, which your next destination will ask for.
Trueway International handles both. We apply to your Indian council, coordinate the correct submission, and follow up until the certificate is received and confirmed.
A good standing certificate is an official document from your nursing council confirming that your registration is valid and that your professional record is clean, with no disciplinary actions or pending complaints against you.
In Malta, this is referred to as a Certificate of Current Professional Status or CCPS. The Council for Nurses and Midwives of Malta, which regulates all nursing and midwifery practice in the country, requires this document from every overseas nurse applying for registration. Without it, CNM cannot complete its assessment of your qualifications.
For nurses who are already registered with CNM Malta and want to move on to work in another country, CNM issues the same type of certificate confirming their status during their time registered in Malta.
Situation 1 — You are going TO Malta from India
You need a good standing certificate or CCPS from your Indian Nursing Council sent directly to CNM Malta as part of your nursing registration application. Your Indian council issues this and submits it to CNM on your behalf. From 1 January 2025, CNM also requires a primary source verification certificate from a reputable verification company, in addition to your registration documents.
Situation 2—You are already IN Malta and moving to another country
You need a Certificate of Current Professional Status from CNM Malta confirming your registration status and professional conduct during your time in Malta. This goes to whatever country or licensing authority you are moving to next. CNM issues this upon application along with a fee of 13.20 euros.
Tell us which situation applies to you, and Trueway will advise the exact process and handle the application accordingly.

Trueway processes good standing certificate applications for Malta CNM registration from all major Indian nursing councils, including:
Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council (KNMC), Karnataka Nursing Council, Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council, Telangana Nursing Council, Andhra Pradesh Nursing Council, Maharashtra Nursing Council, Delhi Nursing Council, Rajasthan Nursing Council, Madhya Pradesh Nursing Council, and Travancore Cochin Medical Council (TCMC) for doctors.
Not sure if your council is covered? Contact us, and we will confirm the same day.
If you are applying for your Indian Council for Malta CNM registration, keep these ready: your current council registration certificate that is valid and active, a clear passport copy of the first and last pages, a recent passport-size photograph, the correct CNM Malta recipient address, and the authorization letter that Trueway prepares for you.
Your council registration must be active. An expired registration means the council cannot issue the certificate. Also note that CNM Malta from January 2025 requires a primary source verification alongside good standing, so plan for both to be submitted together with your registration application.
If you are applying for a CCPS from CNM Malta to move to another country, you will need your CNM registration details, passport copy, and proof of the 13.20 euro fee payment to CNM.
Our team reviews everything before submission. Name mismatches between your passport and council records, expired registrations, and wrong recipient addresses are the most common causes of delay, and we check all of these upfront.

Once you contact us, here is what happens.
We confirm exactly which certificate is needed and which authority issues it, whether that is your Indian council sending to CNM Malta or CNM Malta issuing a CCPS for your next destination.
We review all your documents before submission, verifying name consistency, registration status, and the correct CNM Malta recipient details.
We prepare the authorization letter and submit the application to your Indian council on your behalf.
We follow up regularly with the council until the certificate is processed and dispatched and confirm once CNM Malta has received it.
Malta is a European Union member state, and many Indian nurses use it as a strategic entry point into European healthcare. A CNM Malta registration gives you experience in an EU-regulated environment, which can open doors to other EU countries under mutual recognition frameworks.
However, each country you move to within Europe will ask for your professional record from every previous nursing council you have been registered with. This means that when you leave Malta, your CNM good standing certificate travels with your documentation to every next European employer or licensing body.
Planning for this means keeping your CNM registration active throughout your time in Malta and arranging the CCPS at the right time before your next move, not after you have already left the country.
The good standing certificate is one part of the Malta nursing registration process. Trueway handles the wider documentation chain alongside it.
For the Primary Source Verification that CNM Malta now requires from all non-EU applicants from January 2025, our team can advise on the right verification pathway that CNM accepts.
For document attestation needed as part of the Malta joining process, our Embassy Attestation service covers the Home Department, MEA, and Malta-related attestation chain from India.
For nurses who need a Police Clearance Certificate from India as part of their CNM Malta registration, our PCC service handles this from India and from other countries where you may have previously worked.
For nurses moving from Malta to Ireland for their next role, our NMBI Ireland Good Standing service manages the NMBI documentation in parallel.
For nurses moving from Malta to the UK, our main Good Standing and Verification page covers NMC UK good standing requirements from Indian councils and from the Malta CNM.
No. The certificate must come directly from the Indian Nursing Council to CNM Malta. You cannot submit it yourself. This is a standard requirement for document authenticity.
