A KNMC registration is renewed every five years: the First Renewal after permanent registration, then Re-Renewals. You apply and pay online, print the form and submit it in person or by post. The window opens on the 1st or the 16th, by your expiry date. Nurses abroad can renew the same way.

A Kerala nursing registration has to be renewed every five years. The Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council (KNMC) takes the renewal application online, in two windows each month. This guide sets out when to renew, the documents, how the application works and how we help, including if you are abroad.

For the council's other services, see our KNMC page.

When to renew

A KNMC registration is renewed every five years. The first renewal after your permanent registration is the First Renewal; every renewal after that is a Re-Renewal. The council has opened a third cycle of renewal from May 2025.

Your window depends on the expiry date printed on your certificate:

  • Expiry between the 1st and the 15th of the month: renew from the 1st of that month.
  • Expiry between the 16th and the end of the month: renew from the 16th of that month.

How renewal works on the KNMC site

  1. Fill in the renewal application online on the KNMC website and pay the council's fee.
  2. Download and print the completed application form.
  3. Submit the printed form to the council, in person or by post.

The site opens for renewal twice a month: the first schedule until the 15th, the second until the last day of the month. The council's link covers registrations from 1 January 1990 onwards, for renewal and re-renewal.

What you need

  • Your original registration certificate that has expired
  • Your present address
  • Your email ID and phone number
  • A passport-size photograph
  • For the First Renewal only: your course details, with the dates the course started and was completed

Continuing nursing education: the council awards CNE credit hours to programmes run by colleges and hospitals. An older council notice (2018) said CNE was not compulsory for renewal. We check the current rule for your case.

We confirm your exact list after your enquiry.

Renewing from abroad

Nurses working abroad can renew too: the documents and the steps are the same. The printed form can be submitted by post.

Tell us your registration number and the expiry date on your certificate. We prepare the application with you, check every detail before it is submitted, follow it up and keep you updated on WhatsApp.

Going abroad soon? Renew before you apply for a good standing certificate or verification: the authority abroad checks that your registration is current. See KNMC good standing from abroad.
