What TruMerit asks of your council
US state boards of nursing and US immigration rely on TruMerit, the organisation formerly called CGFNS, to verify a foreign-educated nurse's licence. Its License Validation Form is in your TruMerit order: you sign the first page and send it to your council. The council completes it and sends it directly to TruMerit, by post or through TruMerit's Credential Transfer Portal for regulators. TruMerit does not accept copies of your licence.
Which councils depends on the service:
- Credentials Evaluation Service (for a state board): every nursing licence you hold or have held outside the US.
- VisaScreen: every licence you have ever held.
- Certification Program: a current registered nurse licence from the country where you studied.

Yes. CGFNS International now works under the name TruMerit.
Can I send my council registration certificate to TruMerit myself?
No. TruMerit accepts the licence validation only directly from the council that issued the licence.
How recent must the licence validation be?
The council's signature must be dated within the last three years. Some state boards want it dated within nine months before TruMerit's report.
Which professions does VisaScreen cover?
Registered nurses, practical or vocational nurses, physical and occupational therapists, physician assistants, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and medical laboratory technicians and technologists.
Does ERES need a good standing certificate from my council?
ERES's own list for nurses is education documents only, with the transcript sent directly by your school. Requirements vary by state board, so check your board's list as well.
