What SANC asks of your council

The South African Nursing Council (SANC) registers internationally qualified nurses and midwives. Among its documents is a verification certificate from the regulatory body of your country of origin, confirming that you are in good professional standing with no case pending.

SANC sends its own verification form when it acknowledges your application. Your Indian council completes it in English, stamps and signs it with a legible seal, and returns it directly to SANC in a sealed envelope.

SANC's guidelines say that if the verifications and academic transcripts do not reach it within three months, the application starts again. That is why the council step needs following up.

  • SAQA comes first

    You obtain SAQA's evaluation certificate of your nursing qualification yourself, before you apply to SANC.

  • What SAQA checks

    SAQA evaluates your qualification and asks the awarding body to verify it. It does not ask for a good standing certificate.

  • Transcript from your college

    SANC asks for the academic transcript from the institution where you trained.

  • Letters for foreign nationals

    Foreign nationals also need letters from South Africa's Department of Health foreign workforce programme.
