Your employer submits your preliminary evaluation (Dataflow and the Prometric exam, or NCLEX), valid six months; then licensing with your employer as sponsor. A three-year diploma counts for Registered General Nurse, with two years of experience.

A Qatar nursing licence comes from the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) of the Ministry of Public Health, earlier called QCHP. In Qatar the employer is part of the application from the start. This guide sets out the steps.

The steps

  1. Preliminary evaluation

You apply online; your employer's representative reviews, approves and submits the application.

  2. Dataflow

Verification by DataFlow is mandatory, and it replaces the attestation of your certificates for DHP.

  3. The Prometric exam

Unless you hold the NCLEX, which DHP accepts in place of the exam.

  4. Licensing

With a preliminary evaluation (valid 6 months), you apply for the licence. Your employer is your sponsor, and your council sends the certificate of good standing directly to DHP.

Qatar accepts a three-year diploma for Registered General Nurse, unlike the UAE, where a diploma nurse is an Assistant Nurse. The two years of experience count after your registration as a nurse.

The exam

  • A Prometric exam: most titles 150 questions in 3 hours; pass mark 50% for nurses.
  • QCHP's 2018 circular allowed up to five attempts and kept a pass valid for three years.

Frequently asked questions

Can a GNM nurse work in Qatar as a registered nurse?

Yes, if the diploma was three years after 12 years of school, with two years of clinical experience after registration. In our cases, both diploma (GNM) and BSc nurses apply under the Registered General Nurse title for Qatar, and Dataflow and the Prometric exam apply to every health professional.

Which experience counts for Qatar?

In our cases, experience is accepted when the hospital, clinic or nursing home that issues the certificate is a validly registered organisation.

When do I get the Qatar exam result?

In our cases, you get it at the test centre after the exam, or by email the same day.

Is the Qatar exam needed if I passed the NCLEX?

No. DHP exempts NCLEX holders from the Prometric exam.

Do I need attestation for the Qatar licence?

Not for DHP: verification by DataFlow replaces attestation of certificates. The visa and the employer may still ask for Qatar embassy attestation.

How long is the preliminary evaluation valid?

Six months.
